Salalah Region Oman - aug.026

In the region in and around Salala you can often see Glossy Ibis which are comon in populated areas as long there are green zones, green stripes and areas near streets with palms and subtropic trees with moist areas.

Usually during mornings they fly in small groups to their feeding grounds mostly moist green stripes of grass, often not far from maior street lanes. These are imptressing birds which can also be seen in Goa, often they like to roost on swamp and field edges.

At south Dhabriz a Salala city district near Al Baleed (ressort) there was a small clear water location from the pipe system for palms and the grassstripes. it was impressing and amusing to watch Baya Weavers, Bulbuls and sunbirds at such locations.

Not far from the big Banana, Papaya, Coconut palm plantations.

Salala has a big green area near the city which provides vegetables and fruits for total Oman as it is gatting wet and moist during teh Khareefs season. What means it is mostly cloudy and moist south of the mountain ranges in north.

At south Dhabriz you can get even close to the horse stables which got once brought on ships from the main city ports to India. It was old trade routs for ships which had loads of spices, frankincense (Weihrauch), also the Queen from Shaba was visitig Oman during 9.th century.

Lately I decided for her even as I tried to get Cheney rumsfeld and powell during my last visit to Malaysia onway to Saba which is a provinvce in today Borneo. I am sure I did not mix here with other women there.

Some 30 km east of Salala I staied overnight at Sumhuram an old port city from the Bronze ages, so to say some 3 000 years old. It is set on a nice hill overlooking the bay and coastal areas with steep riusing cliffs which is very impressing durng evenings at th ruin city named Sumhuram. Often some one or two pikiniky cardrivers rest there with friends. It was quite magic and I thought when it starts raining for short I will take shelter in the very old doorways made of solid rock at Sumhuram. Tha bank and my mat was fitting, had no scorpions in sight and all was well.

From the gates to the ruin city it is some 1 km over the smooth hilltops which has gravel roads, at the gate you need to buy tickets for the ancient port city.

Hitch hiking onway you can often see small to medium sized falcons and hawks. Sadly I did not see any Bonellis eagles any more likje first time in Oman not far outside Muscat city leavuing it on sidewalks near the main exit highways. That was amazing as these eagles seem to see immediatly which prey is worth the hunt.

At that time also vultures got seen at the big Vadi south of Rustak with Bonellis sailing high over that desertland basin.

Purple Sunbbirds (kolibrilike) got seen at Vadi Darbat at the backside of the big main pikiniki hill facing the huge vadi Wall of about 1,5 km lenght and a hight of approx. 150 m which is impressing. I spent some two to three hours there and enjoied the birds as Baya Weavers (mails can not be mixed, Webervoegel) and Purple sunbirds. getting close to the pikinik hilltop. Also some Bulbuls around and on way up the hill some Wachtelkoeneige got seen crossing far away as they knew the danger. We were not anywere in Texas ! (cheney was a bad qualehunter !)

Wachtelkoenige got also seen on way to Sharja from Dubai airport the usuall cross streetlanes fast from odd parking lots.

Falcons got usually seen from cars and thats often not enough time to specify the spezies. Big falcons are costly in these regions and finally we were not in Texas because even qualehunting is dangerouse there. (bad joke for falcons) Quales usually hide in highdry grasslands and even green carpets were they can hardly get out when a mat is on it. (there was not that many green zones east out of Salala as once lets say in Bagdad Iraq)

Unfortunatly qualehunters zzhhhzzhhhh are often from Texas or governmentals there. Wachtelkoneige are faster and far bigger not let aside the poor exhausted Black Storks which were roostinga dn resting over days, and seemed to have had a hard journey from the north or northeast over desret lands.

Black Storks Black Storks breed in mideuropean to russian regions with vast old woodlands. When the get on wrong route they have problems during Khareef to get west from Mirbat city which is about 35 km from Salala. Flieing against teh southwest Monsoon must be tireing, they are sleeping overnights on light masts and got often seen near Mirbat harbour which had many fishermen, forwheel drive cars and fish on which the Black Storks fed. The same group got also seen at the resting place wall near the Mirbat port. Storks are long distance sailors who need termics to get over huge stretches of deserts.

There were also some medium sized herons (Reiher) at Mirbat in tidal waters. Bigest groups were of Glossy Ibis and Sooty Gulls (gr Moewen) which are black huge seaghulls what can be fascinating as usually Seagulls are white or grey colored, witrh some black. Seagulls and Terns are best fliers and can cover thousands of km in weeks. two smaller sized terns (Seeschwalben) got seen at Mirbat.

And a huge flock of Plovers (hard to spezify spezie) rested at south Dhabriz shores, lovely with huge waves in back.

In some tourist locations they told me eu tourist season starts when there is winter in Europe, that was ok for me. Further news I got from a huge TV screen which got then modified to me needs (without help) which was bbc news which got read by the manuals curser from a big bed. So if needed you can be mostly updated under such circumstances.
Bad presidnets (Sellenica) were far away but not all oiltankers. I knew these guys would not hesitate to take action to bomb whatever as done since years, first by lips then by deeds.

the picture above is from years before at Sur Oman

UAE Emirates over Newyear 24 - 025

On way from dubai airport to Sharja, which can be done on foot, there were quite a few Wachtlekoenige at some dusty and sandy parking lictions, between the cars and where they can find some food.

Wachtelkoeneig are a bid bigger than Wachteln, whichb geta slo shot in Texas by qualehunters. It happened onec near Abu Dhabi at its outskirts thata wachtel (quale) took off form my green bed about hal;f an hour when i was restig on some green carpet under the palms. Quales are very stupid birds as they seem to have no senses. YOu can practically sleep on them and nothijng will happen.

At that same time a big goose, was touching down near the palms at Abu Dhabi outskirts.

Near Sharja corniche you can see Seagulls, also variouse spezies and Herons here and then. They can be dffered by size, plumage and the bill. The bill cen be in curve, long short or big as with kingfishers. Also leg colors can indicate spezies. It was mostly one indian pond heron at Sharja corniche. Which you can also see at goan shores.

Same counts for Seagulls and Terns which cover 2000 km in one week.

Turky jan 2025

The first morning after arrival a big nice Adlerbuzzard, (Birds of Prey) which is hard to differ from other buzzards, it had bright wings and witha dark spot midwing. Most bitds stay over winyter times in south turky as Wagtails, also some variouse Swifts and

The Adlerbussard got disturbed by some seagulls. No tourist got to see the Adlerbuzzard, but by my hint, not far from ANTALYAS PORT and pirate port.

I will spare you with pics here cause it is hard to make Birdpics when they are high up in the sky.

Skymasters are great birds and you ve now idea about them.
The latter days nomore Adlerbuzzard got seen.

Oman over New Year 23- 24

About three days after arrival fro teh airport to Barka, which I chose on free will, on way to Rustaq later I got to see Wild Camels , with good muscles and looking like fed to get round balls along its limbs. A small group in the bush and grasslands onway to Rustaq.

Then some days later a falcon a nice one big and agile as the Shaheen but more looking liek a Feldegs but finally it got a Wuergfalke (should be a saker in slang). But remember stay off teh big falcons let them oin peace, tehy are birds off limits. Also in Airport settings, stay off them, they are birds off limits and strongly forbidden to catch the from nests oin teh wild fofff

Even as there may be some clinics for them (falcons clinics in 2 hours cardrive range), either you leave them in freedom or I hunt you down form over Kyrgisthan to Baku.

It was at top end before the sharp curves winding up to some hotel, some kilometers after the paved and broad road into the Wadi from Rustaq. I took a break in the dust and heavy huge rumble, rocks, then after about half an hour the falcon took of swiftly down the Wadi.

I saw him from top and the color was quite schiefer like but a Wuergfalke is mostly possible.

Swiftly donig a shrp curve to a nearby rock in a sharp curve and leaving the goats behind which maust also have been there since ages in the wadi. I hiked back finally the same days afternoon lacking any perspecticve for more good views on falcons and eagles as was the case my first time in Oman when there were even teh Bonellis eagle along the main highways out of Muscat from Ruwy and further at that time.

Bonellis usually do not get to see whities along these highways, so I got special attention then from one !! This time (23-24) no eagles and no vultures as once. Many Seagulls again at Muscat bays also doves djungle and turkish doves, there are a few verieties there. Djungle Doves also at Almora India.

The goats are stonishing as they are the origins of most goats in the world and there it was wild goats in the Wadi from Rustaq. The same day before I made the decision to move into the Wadi there when two western cyclists in the hotel showed up .... but I checked in later the same day evening. Rustaq is spread around, old parts and modern city, mostly along big roads but some can manage.

It has secret locations close to the mountains and some nice hideout cafees with torta.

Wild donkys can be seen on way between Sur and Muscat highways also Camels, wild Goats more in the Mountains and Wadis. The arab Leopard can also be seen, if or its traces in the lose grounds in Omans faroff southern National park east of Salalah where I never got and will hardly.

Turky over New Year 23-24

Turky is much more moist than Oman and so it gets as enclosed by sea at three side heavy Winter storms, has many diverse biotops and so the natural creature range is more.
At Antalya many doves, mostly djungle, turtle and turkish doves and Lemon trees, also oranges in the streets over new Year and x-mas.

A huge flock of swallows seen from a rock restaurant the first afternoon after arrival from Oman. Mehlschwalben oder Rockdoves (Felsenschw.) They cover huge distance within weeks and days coming from Africa and the sahel zone.

Near Antalyas shore you get to see huge Eukalyptus trees and many varieties of Wagtails ( Sch.ua Stelzen), often in good color near the shores there, birdwatchers of Britain.

Later onway back from Seljuk (doves crows, Dohlen and small birds) aftre the heavy winterstorm which shook the total hotel once over a weekends night as liek somebody woudl have thrown down sofas or rocks from a carterpillar ... about one hour west of Bursa which should be the hotspot for birdwatchers during main migration two times a year, there many Buzzards and some falcons (Roetel and Comon Kestrels etc) once there it could also have been a Bonellis eagle pair, sailing in winds, some 150m from bus it is hard to say in that seconds passing.

They hunt togather. The landscape was OK and distance huge, fields not yet in full sunflower shape.

In IST before forced to leave by bus, over some two days many Mittalmeer Seagulls, they are huge and impressing, doves as everywhere in Turky, Dohlen and crows in small to big flocks which can mostly manage turkish winterstorms (Seljuk)

PS 4: PACKBAG came one day later from Muascat airport, about 35 km to muscat city and 30 min by car to Barka.

Malaysia

Bulgaria 2024

Astonishing the part overland I got to see many Buzzardss (Maeuse, - Rauhfuss etc less honey buzzards there, too cold for them) again as they like that unstructured areas the way to Svilengrad and the partly broken land in the lowland areas with small rivers and old rotten wineyards.

A variety of buzzards migrate to Turky and the Sahel zone, also falcons from Russia- Asia and all parts of Europe. No storks at any parts of the stretch during that time of the year, see Sahle zone !!

Sofias small stream is funny, doves, Dohlen and crows again, some smaller birds in Sofias railway stn. The part over some 5 hrs was nice ontrain from Svilengrad to Sofia the same day then, the last and first day from Turky overland.

The pig got slaughtered along the highway from EUs monster border and left behind that day, told myself the way to Svilengradsky ! No further sightings from bus to Villach but costums .... Alps.

(more at D 50 gefaehrlichsten Unternehemnder Welt, ECON; booktip) And stay off my faclons, off limits !

PS: Und nochwas - ausgew. maennl.

PPS: packbag came oner day later from muscat airport as it got lost onway ... part of the bad year 2023

PPPS: Thay theft of card .... half year no Bike (motorb. in alps) .... lately banking again misshaps onway ....

.... . in Geheimen.

Near a river junction

Not far from where to main rivers meet at the Alps southern flank, during a ride on bike a couple of Rotmilane got seen.

Do not see, do not touch, do not shoot !

The village (Dorf) is named after the river junction and has a pool for the local inhabitants (insaan hindi)

Other Rotmilane got seen onway to Swiss last time before other journies in Vorarlberg and the northeast of Swiss, mostly from train. Also an owl from train, same applies for the Saveriver area in Croatia and Serbia, where a Waldkauz got spotted from the Flixbus on way to Lubljana from Sofia onway from Athens, which as a bid confusing after Dubai.

Carinthia - Norikum area

During their magnifizant migration from south to their breeding grounds ducks in respective Tafelenten u Reiherenten as also Comon Goldeneye and Goosander, the males in breeding color, got seen at a local Speichersee form very far (out of arrow distance) which is on the way to the riverjunction village mentioned above, Drau -Moell Einzug.

Usually they rest only one or two days till next takeoff for the stretch over the Alps. Mid of march 2022

At the bigger lake which name is not Woerthersee but the more northern lake got seen swans at the western shores. Also a bunch of Sperber (sparrowhawk) feathers got found in the shorewaters, near some fency hotels with a lovecapsule over the lakes shores. It was sunny and the tailfeathers got taken on bike.

The same say some minor Waldbrand (bushfire) got seen from the smaller lake onway up near the railtrack, it got also an artice in some locale newsmag, against the fakenews trumphypes.

Bienenfresser

Auch Tannenhaeher kann man in der Gegend manchmal beobachten, the equvalent to the smaller secluded living Nutcracker in HP India. They are very rare birds in Europe, but when you know their sound you can locate them occasiaonally near farmhouses during autumns (oct -sept)

Nuthatch and eurasien Blackbirds are quite comon, of the latter they say its is a thiefbird in black and white with a magnificant long tail.

It could also be that the Lamas since years spit on some cardrivers if not behauving well to the Lamas of the valley. The BUNNY in the garden was fighting some evel stuff last night, it got seen with a bucnh of haitr in its mouth and faceing the direction of the evel intruder in the light of the activated bewegungsmelder.

Alpenvorlande 022

 siebenschlaefer

Temple Tank

Durchmesser 120 cm hoehe 42 cm, volumen full 340 ltr, after months of checking options for its transport it got finally successfully put to the garden Heater and filter tutti (end Aug. 2022)

47.00 Latitude North
Besatz vorlaeufig mit Blauen Fadenfischen (siehe Aquarien Atlas I ...

Further Success:

Strelitzien got put to the secret place. Since may Passionfruit is climbing at two sides of the house and now starting to blossom in great start of September. Strelitzien gave the visited place at that times its magic touch.

        Aeskulapnatter took its biotop
